Recovery Month 2010

Local Substance Abuse Treatment Providers, ValueOptions of Kansas and Social & Rehabilitation Services to Launch 105 Balloons to Raise Awareness of Substance Use Disorders across the State of Kansas

More than 22 million people in the United States have been classified with substance use disorders in the past year. To raise awareness of this disease and inform people of the available treatment and recovery resources, local treatment providers, ValueOptions of Kansas and Social & Rehabilitation Services hosted a balloon launch in five areas across the state of Kansas. Each balloon launched represents each county in the state of Kansas that is affected by Substance Use Disorders. The balloon launch is part of the 21st observance of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month which is held in September. This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Now More Than Ever!,” intends to educate the general public as well as specific groups on how daily and increased stress can contribute to substance misuse, as well as the effectiveness of treatment and the possibility of recovery.
